PRESCOTT, AZ – September 5, 2016 The 9th Annual “Take a Hike” Hiking Spree Kicks Off on September 10 at the Highlands Center with an early morning hike at 7am and enjoy a Continental Breakfast at 9:15am. You can then head to the Community Nature Center for the 5th Annual Wildflower Celebration. Enjoy the changing season and take naturalist-led walks, including an evening forest walk, join the Audobon Society for a bird walk and hear bring the family for a Moon Walk. Thursdays and Saturdays 9:00am at the Highlands Center.
Wednesdays 9:00am at select City of Prescott Trail locations.

The Highlands Center offers four varieties of Walks. Thursday, Saturday and Evening walks at the Center’s own Lynx Creek Site, and a special Wednesday Walk, every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at select city trails.

Join local hiking enthusiasts for the 9th Annual Hiking Spree! Get the season started with a presentation highlighting the new hikes and the traditional kick-off hike. Color maps will be available along with special insight to our unique 2016 trails. Sponsored by Credit Union West and The Hike Shack.

5th Annual Wildflower Celebration at the Community Nature Center of Prescott Free
Saturday, September 10, 7:30 – 11:30am
Free wildflower walks will start every 30 minutes, and last about an hour. Trails are not difficult, but some stretches are dirt with slope. Water and a restroom are available on site. 1980 Williamson Valley Road – watch for a banner that will mark the turn off.

Moon Walk Friday, September 16, 7:00am Free
Bring the whole family for an adventure through the forest by the light of the moon!

Knee-High Naturalists (Ages 3 & 4)
Saturdays, September 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15 9:30 -11:00am.
Registration Required. $65 (10% discount for members)
Class is held outside in the forested area of the Community Nature Center. Children will participate in activities that include
physical games, role playing, scavenger hunts, a story, a snack, and a craft. Parents and Guardians are asked to attend and join in the fun and learning.

Coming in October: Wander the Wild, Oct 2: The 8th annual Wander the Wild, the Highlands Center for Natural History’s biggest yearly fundraiser, will be held Sunday, October 2, at the Capital Canyon Club from 2:30 to 7:00 PM. “This exciting outdoor and adventure-themed auction is our main fundraising event, responsible for providing thousands of children with nature-based learning experiences, proven to benefit their lives in many ways,” stated Dave Irvine, Executive Director.
