Second Wednesday Naturalist Walk – May 18, Springtime along Butte Creek, 8:00 AM
Trail: Butte Creek from Strickland Park; HCNH Naturalist John Mangimeli. Enjoy the splendor of this local creek as spring transitions into summer. John will lead participants through this rich riparian habitat directing attention to its diverse plant species and some of their inhabitants. Family F.U.N. Night! Free – Friday, May 20, 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Celebrate the coming summer through various activities including scavenger hunts, S’mores and fireside stories, crafts, explorations, live animals, puppet shows and more! Families will not only enjoy a F.U.N. (Friends Understanding Nature) evening in the forest, they will get a peek into the adventures of our F.U.N. campers.
Face your Fear of Sssnakes! Free – Saturday, May 21, 9:00 AM. Join Cecil Schwalbe, PhD, renowned and beloved herpetologist from Tucson, through an adventure to reduce your fear of snakes. Cecil will begin with an indoor presentation about our local snakes, and then participants will have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with some of Cecil’s favorite housemates. Optional Guided Walks will be offered after the presentation for participants to generate awareness of snake habitat and interactions in the wild. Registration Required.
Creating with Nature: Papermaking – Sunday, May 22, 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Participants will join Juanita Hull-Carlson, local Artist in Residence, for a workshop on the history and science of paper-making. Each person will create a number of handmade pieces of paper and are encouraged to bring dried plants, insects, snakeskin sheds, specialty papers or fibers to personalize their artwork. This can be messy, wear appropriate clothes or aprons and extra newspapers are always welcome. Registration Required. $20 (10% discount for members)
Peter, Paul and Mary Remembered in concert – Saturday May 28, 7:00 PM. Rekindle your fond memories of the times when we “came of age” and of the music that made it happen when the Valley-based trio Peter, Paul and Mary Remembered bring their tribute to the legendary folk group, with Tom and Christa Agostino.
