Art in the Outdoors
Our art classes are an excellent place for beginners and experienced artists to learn and practice their skills in nature observation and illustration. Classes are offered throughout the year and range from series to a single program.
Spring Colored Pencil Drawing Series
with Diane Iverson
Spring is the time of emerging colors. Cliff rose open their striking blooms of yellow and white and Plateau Striped Whiptails are coming to the surface, showing their blue and yellow hues. Draw and color some of the local species in our spring colored pencil drawing series led by artist Dianne Iverson.
Diane is the author and/or illustrator of over 20 books. Her illustrations are in the permanent collections of the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature in Fresno, California and the Mazza Museum of International Art from Children’s Books.
Participants need to bring the following materials:
Faber Castell Polychromos Pencils, set of 24 (or larger)
Verathin Pencils, White, Black and Lemon Yellow
Caran D’Ache Full Blender, two pack
Mono Sand Eraser
Strathmore Bristol, vellum surface, 9 X 12 tablet

Where: Highlands Center of Natural History – James Learning Center Classroom*
* If weather permits, this class may be held in the open-air Ramada within the Discovery Gardens.*
Cost: $22.50 per class for members, $25 for nonmembers.
